Peru: Stevedores finish strike in Callao's port

 

After eleven days of strike in the port of Callao, the union of stevedores got an agreement with the Executive. This deal had taken several hours between this group and the Minister of Transport and Communications, Enrique Cornejo, in which the government pledged to establish a sectoral committee involving stevedores and institutions involved to find a consensus on the Law 347 amending some articles of the Port Labour Act who demanded the workers. "We also discussed the request for early retirement, for which will meet with the head of the Standardization Bureau (ONP), Jose Luis Chirinos. While Wilmer Esteves, general secretary of the Stevedores Union of the Port of Callao, said that from now the Government must listen the problems of the employees.
